            The  word  photography  comes  from  two  ancient  Greek  words, “photo”  for  light  and “graph”  for  drawing.  The  word  was  first  used  by  scientist  Sir  John  F.W.   When  you  are  taking  a  photograph,  light  or radiant  energy is used to  record  a  picture  of something  happening  on  a  light-sensitive  surface. 

            The first  person  to  ever  take  a photograph  is  Joseph Niepce.  In  the  early  1900’s Joseph  began  to  experiment  with  a  method  called  lithography.  His  method  lead  him  to  try  bitumen  and  oil  and  lavender.  He  then  taught himself  how  to  capture  the  image  of  something.  In 1827  he  made  the  first  ever  surviving  photograph.  It required  exposure,  in  bright  sunlight,  for over eight  hours.
